Everyone has heard about Einstein or Leonardo da Vinci. The name Nikola Tesla, unfortunately, is less well known. But this scientist is also very famous, although not every invention he made became known to the whole world.

Among his notions are nine innovations that are very worthy of attention. So what did this man build, why did he go down in history? The Serbian-Polish electrical engineer was a real genius, the scale of Edison or Mendeleev, if you are closer to comparison with Russian inventors …

Radio

First, he invented radio long before Marconi and Popov.

It seems like gossip, but Nikola Tesla even had an official patent for this invention. He received it in 1897, but the US Patent Office took away this patent from him and gave it to Marconi. And this injustice is explained, most often, by the fact that Marconi had much more influential acquaintances than the Pole. Later, the American Supreme Court, having received enough evidence, canceled Marconi’s patent, however, after Nicola died. And we are still fiercely arguing whether Italy or Russia is the “homeland” of radio …

Alternating electric current

Secondly, it is thanks to Nikola Tesla that our homes are now supplied with alternating, and not more dangerous direct electric current.

Between this man and Edison – there was a long and tough confrontation about how this current should be distributed. Edison was in favor of direct current (which, by the way, was also more expensive to generate), and Tesla was in favor of alternating current. We use variables, which means we know which side won, although Edison is considered the more famous genius.

Electric motor

Thirdly, one of the world’s first electric motors was also shown by a man named Tesla.

Unfortunately, due attention was not paid to this little thing at that time, but it could really change the world. However, he already has seriously changed under the influence of other inventions of the great man and those who became his followers or competitors. Electricity was, as they say, a skate for Tesla and the main hobby of his whole life, so most of his inventions are connected precisely with electromechanics, with the work of an electric current.

Robotics

Fourthly, there is a curious theory that Tesla also invented robotics!

Well, this is probably a controversial issue – after all, he simply reasoned that we all act under the influence of external impulses, and, therefore, we are a kind of living programmed automata. Similar views were expressed by many, very different people, including some philosophers. Tesla thought that – it is possible to create something like an artificial man, only with restrictions on his growth and reproduction. A very popular concept in science fiction, by the way!

X-rays

Fifthly, he suggested the possibility of the existence of X-rays, which only later, much later, was discovered by another person.

The one by whose name, in fact, they were named. Tesla was not particularly engaged in this direction. And if you did, what would happen? Perhaps, instead of X-rays, we would have examined our body with “Tesla rays” or “Tesla rays”, or would he call them somehow?

Neon advertising

Sixthly, one of his simplest inventions, which turned out as if by chance in the form of a “side effect” – neon advertising.

The man took neon tubes and bent them into such a shape that the names of great scientists were obtained. And these tubes at Tesla glowed – just a fun, designed to demonstrate the possibilities of electricity when it is used for lighting.

Without the most diverse illuminated advertising, the appearance of modern cities, whether it be the USA or Russia, Japan or Europe, but the whole world! – would be completely unusual. If you (like many) do not like advertising, then understand that Tesla is not at all to blame for the intemperance of some businessmen who shove it with such obsession everywhere and everywhere. This is already called “lack of culture”.

Remote control

The seventh is the remote control, a familiar little thing to all of us, also from Tesla laboratories.

Only now they controlled with the help of the first unit not some household appliance, but neither more nor less – a boat motor! The device was rather bulky, but in 1898 a boat with remote control was officially patented.

Batteries and switches took up a lot of space and weighed heavily, however, by radio, with their help, the operator could “command” the steering wheel and propeller. It was also a side, not the most important invention for Tesla, which only showed the widest, most powerful and amazing possibilities of radio waves (close relatives of his beloved electricity).

What else is Nikola Tesla famous for

Tesla gradually got in his research to such depths that the results of his work were classified, and many of them remain secret to this day. It is known that he managed to become the “forerunner” of the creation of wireless communications, natural for the present time, but seemed like a fairy tale then (as, indeed, half a century ago).

And he somehow came up with the idea of using free energy scattered in space, he proved that our planet is a kind of large inductor. Here are two of his inventions, which at that time were not given a “move”. For political reasons, the scientist began to interfere with his work, and he never made those discoveries, his greatest, that he could.

It is believed that Tesla is one of those people, thanks to whom the second stage of the “industrial revolution” known to historians began. People who are far from historical science may not divide the revolution into stages and not even think about it, but we all use electricity every day, and Tesla played a huge role in introducing its use into our daily lives.

Tesla was born in 1856 and died in 1943, having managed to change the whole life of mankind with his scientific creativity in his almost 90 years…

Tesla is one of the so-called “underestimated” scientists. Many of his inventions have become – without the slightest exaggeration – the basis of our modern life. Rather, he is not even directly an inventor, the author of many interesting and important innovations, but, as it were, their forerunner, the one who anticipated the “triumph of electricity”, which became the basis of life for any modern person, including you.
