Content is the inner essence, the inner content. This concept does not mean physical, non-material content: for example, the term does not apply to a box or bag.

In such cases, the Russian word “content” (bags or boxes) is more suitable. The English word, which is a synonym for the Russian “content”, was introduced from outside by specialists working in the IT field.

Until now, this concept almost entirely refers to the field of computer technology, and more precisely, to the World Wide Web. However, the newfangled word content is increasingly spreading into everyday life, transforming in the perception of people into “information content”. So, on the Internet you can already find such expressions: the content of a book, a movie, a music collection.

The main area where the concept of “content” is used is the Internet. Here, this term means filling a specific site. Each Internet site has its own content – texts, photos or videos and films. All of this content is traditionally referred to as its site content. The Internet is a huge, almost inexhaustible source of information, which a person simply cannot grasp.

As a result, for ease of use, the entire virtual computer space was divided into thematic sites filled with information of a certain nature.

At the same time, sites have long turned for their owners from “interest clubs” into sources of permanent income. Profit for information sites provides the placement of advertising banners and announcements, for selling sites – the provision of certain services, the supply of goods, etc. Content promotion plays an important role in the amount of earnings.

Advertisers are more interested in “promoted” sites, with a large number of visits per day. They are willing to pay good money for placing their advertisements, or rather, advertising content, on the pages of such sites.

Here the question arises – how to “untwist” the site? A content manager is accepted for work, a person responsible for filling the customer’s website with high-quality content.

Content types

Specialists distinguish several types of content, depending on a number of its characteristics. If we consider the content of sites in terms of the uniqueness of information, then the content is divided into:

  • Unique — representing original author’s articles, exclusive photos and videos.
  • Non-unique, also called “copy-paste” from the English “copy” – “copied”, and “paste” – “pasted”. This is borrowed, and most often, simply stolen information from other sites of similar subjects.

In its form, Internet content is:

  • Text. The most common form of Internet information, which is any article, reviews, descriptions of services and products offered.
  • Video content. A variety that has been gaining more and more popularity in recent years thanks to numerous video hosting sites such as YouTube. It consists of videos and feature films of various subjects.
  • Audio content – various audio files, most often recordings of musical works.
  • Graphic – all the drawings presented on the web, from the simplest to the most complex, made using the latest graphics programs.

According to its availability to the user, the content can be free or paid, provided for viewing, listening or downloading for a fee.
